LN’s Blog: Boom Boom! Lore – 2007 to present day 2008
Although we’d designed and printed our first round of Boom Boom! Cards in February 2007, the idea of having a companion website that allowed us to track these revolutionary acts of kindness as they made their way across the globe took shape a few months later in a local loungy location where we stepped out of our day job and dreamt big.
A tiny bit-o-background…
I’ve been working with Mary Beth and the fine folks at The Boomerang Project as their freelance Art Director/lead designer since February of 2003. As a freelance designer I’ve worked with many clients. My work experience with Mary Beth is near seamless… her idea, her voice & writing prowess – and how I interpret them visually seems to be spot on for both of us… indeed there are revisions, but our end vision, how we see things and the world are quite aligned… if any of you freelance out there (doesn’t matter the profession) you know the dance it is to work with varied clients… and so it was a no brainer that as the Boomerang Project grew and needed my design wares more and more that I begin to accept less and less outside clients. For over a year now I’ve worked exclusively for the Boomerang Project as well as starting this startup with Mary Beth that is, Boom Boom! Revolution.
Back to the night in question…
The idea had been percolating in Mary Beth’s head for years, this notion of a company that does good in the world, to create only positive products that endorse treating each other well. Her list of ideas is a long one… that night we added many new ones, and embellished old ones – thus the Boom Boom! Cards site took form.
That day job I was speaking about… well it does indeed pay the bills and need folks to run it, etc. and so Boom Boom! Revolution had a bit of a slow start. I’m writing this post just days away from our beta launch. A long 16 months after the vision was born. And so there’s a general feeling of giddiness, nervousness and excitement around our office.
We’re out to change the world. We hope to see you on the frontlines with us, AND would greatly appreciate any feedback you might have. Our goal is to be nimble, to go where this takes us… we have an idea of what might happen, but totally expect to be surprised and amazed by how YOU Revolutionaries take this idea and fly.
We’re glad you’re here!
