Meet Jefferson Award Winner, Anna Chan, The Lemon Lady in Contra Costa County. One-woman Campaign Against Hunger. 13,000+ pounds of local fruit harvested in only a few months! $75,000+ Farmers’ Market & Lemon Lady gleaning donations delivered to local food pantries. Over 100 truckloads of produce transported in our family SUV! Thousands of seedlings donated to community gardens. Meeting true angels along the way. Lemons, oranges, grapefruit, apricots, plums, peaches, tomato, bean or zucchini, one by one, all for the greater good of humanity. One person. One Tree. One year. Saving the world one little lemon at a time. Flyers on fruit trees. Fruit to food banks. Anyone can do it, Any Town, USA. Simply type a flyer and ask the fruit tree owner to donate a few bags of fresh oranges, lemons, grapefruit, etc. to a local food pantry. (You don’t necessarily have to harvest the fruit – ask the owner.) 10 cent flyer investment can yield hundred of dollars of fresh fruit donations. How many times do you drive by a fruit tree with rotting fruit on the ground? What will you do? Do nothing, get nothing.
