Boom Boom! at Fashion Fights Cancer 2010

The 2010 Fashion Fights Cancer event was held at Manhattan’s exquisite Audi Forum in New York. It was hosted by actress and recording artist Suzy Malick and featured the collections from five New York-based designers: Tadashi Shoji (featured in Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week), Beauty Mark (by Bryon Lars), Whistle & Flute, Lotusgrace and Kahri (by Kahrianne Kerr).

Boom Boom! Revolution generously donated card kits for the gift bags for the charitable event, where a percentage of all sales and ticket purchases were donated to I’m Too Young for This! Cancer Foundation and The Cancer Research Institute.

“It’s important to practice what you preach. Not only was the Fashion Fights Cancer event an opportunity to help others in need, but it also gave us the chance to participate in the movement of what this company is all about,” said Mary Beth Campbell, founder of the Boom Boom! Revolution.

Each deck of Boom Boom! Cards donated to the event contains 26 individual acts of kindness designed to create a social revolution of giving. Each card is an invitation to join the Boom Boom! Revolution, a small but growing army of people who are confident that they can re-vision the world they know and create the world they want through simple acts of kindness that allow them to reach out and inspire the innate altruism that lives in everyone.

The Green & Family Decks!

Based on feedback and requests from you Revolutionaries out there, we put our noses to the grindstone in an effort to expand the Boom Boom! Cards family. We are thrilled about these two new decks and think you will be too. Here’s a little bit about them:

The Family Deck:
revolutionary acts for families to create and inspire kindness

Many of you wanted cards to play with your elementary aged children and/or as a family together. We talked a lot about this and after we went, “Duh! Why didn’t we think of that?” we buckled down and started creating. We took this as an opportunity to tweak the standard notion of the Boom Boom! Cards, and change the format a bit to engage younger children who may be limited by their age to post online or interact with the website; with the Family Deck we leave that part to mom and dad. The kids get an activity board, stickers and do-it-yourself Boom Boom! Cards! The whole family gets to create a team name, a mission statement and use the included discussion cards to talk about the experience of doing the cards. The Green Deck:
revolutionary acts of greenness for a healthy life & happy planet!

This deck is for those your you who want to “be kind and track it online” in the name of Mother Earth, our ultimate home base. If you love being an Agent of Altruism for the human race, you will love being an Agent of Altruism on special assignment for the planet. Each of the 26 cards has simple and effective ways to enhance your daily life as well as help sustain the life of the beautiful orb we all share. It’s the small changes we make in our daily habits that will add up to big changes for future generations. For more information about the Green Deck, go here.

Directly after the V2  launch of the site, we buckled down and dug our heels deep into research and development readying ourselves for the next phase…expanding the Boom Boom! Cards family. Yep, we’re working diligently behind the scenes to create two new decks AND an iPhone app!

We don’t intend to come up for air until they are all launched. So look for us to take big deep breaths sometime in mid July!

Worldwide Boom Booms!
Yes, that tab is still there, although you might notice it looks a little different. This page is now the home page and where you’ll see all the latest action from the front lines. It’s where every post shows up no matter where in the world it’s posted or who posted it. The other thing that’s new and cool is that you can filter through all the posts in a bunch of new, cool ways. Seriously, check it out. We’re pretty pumped up about it.

My Decks
Yep, this tab is still there too, but the page has got tons more cool stuff than before, like the “Say Something Good” box at the top of the page. This is your place to tell the Boom Boom! Community what’s good. It can be about you, the world, someone else, a quote  you like…doesn’t matter. Just say something good. It will show up in the activity stream on the home page along with all the Boom Boom! posts; here, people can comment on your good status and let you know they’re stoked about it. You can also post your good status straight to Facebook and Twitter and let everyone know what’s good!

Of course, you’ll still play and keep track of all your Boom Boom! Cards here, so you know which ones you’ve done and what you’ve left to do, but now you can also filter through them just like you can on the main page. You’ll also notice the stream on the lower right called “Who Loves Ya?” This is the new way to keep track of the comments you’ve gotten on either your Boom Boom! Posts or your “Say Something Good” updates.

And, there’s a New Card!
It’s called Everyday Boom Boom! What’s it for? It’s for that everyday occurrence when you witness, experience or perform a Boom Boom! that’s not represented in one of the cards. Say you see a truly fantastic feat of Boom Boom!, like someone gathering all the shopping carts in the parking lot and putting them back, or someone buys YOU a cup of coffee out of the blue. What do you do? You let others know about it by posting an Everyday Boom Boom! That’s what.

My People
This is a brand new tab and it’s the place to keep track of Boom Booms! posts exclusively from friends or fans (more on who they are and how you get them below). Here you can also filter and search through their Boom Booms!, accept friend requests, read and send messages to your friends as well as check out who your latest fans are.

You, yes YOU, will have fans!
It’s true. People will become fans of yours and you will become fans of others. What’s this mean? It simply means that if you read a post you like or a “Say Something Good” that resonates with you, you can fan the person who did or said it. That way their posts will show up in the stream on your “My People” page; this means you will be guaranteed to see their latest act of awesome, whatever it is. To fan someone, go to their profile by clicking on their name; in the upper right hand you’ll see, “Become a Fan,” click that and voila! You are their latest fan. And, just watch. People will fan you too.

How to Make Friends
It’s easy. Just do like mom used to tell you: be nice. Well, that and click the “Add as Friend” button on the right hand side of anyone’s profile page. What’s it mean to be a friend? Well, you get to be the first to read their posts and when you are a friend of someone, you can message them directly on the site and give them an extra special dose of Boom Boom!

Profile Page
Big news! You can go to people’s profiles now! How cool is that? Yep, you can see who they are and find out a bit about them (only what they want you to know, however). So, you know what this means…you better high tail it over to your own profile page and spruce it up. Seriously, upload a picture, fill out the bio, give it some personality so people get a sense of who you are.  If you already have a profile picture that you uploaded before, it will still show up, but it will stay the current size. To have it be bigger and crystal clear, upload a new one…go on, put your best face forward! (or your dog, or cat’s if you are concerned about privacy).

Settings, privacy, email notifications and other important stuff
When you are on your profile page, you will see a tab called, “Edit My Account Settings”, this is the place to go to make sure your settings are what you want them to be. Here you can decide how public you want to be, you can reset your password, change your user name, write a little bio about who you are, decide what email notifications you want to receive and generally take care of your behind the scenes business!

By the way, about your “user name”… you might notice that you no longer have both a log in and user name, we simplified things so you only have to remember one name. If you like your current user name, great, keep it. If not, you can change it here!

Here’s a shout out to Special Agent of Altruism, Karin Tyden from Sweden, who just completed every card in the deck over the last 26 days! Wow! That is some serious Boom Boom!

Her dedication and thoughtfulness has been inspiring and we’ve loved reading her posts as she has spread the word of Boom Boom! in her native country. We are so grateful to her for diligently dispensing doses of guerrilla goodness this last month. It’s been a fun to watch and we look forward to seeing more of her  with Everyday Boom Boom! and Say Something good.  Who knows…maybe she’ll even start another deck!

Boom Boom!

First, we are just mere hours away from launching a brand new, super cool and really robust v2 website for Boom Boom! Cards. Look for it to be live after the weekend. You are going to have so much fun exploring what’s new and cool!

The second thing is this, a few weeks ago we got an email from a woman named Karin Tyden, an awesome Agent of Altruism from Sweden. Yes, Sweden! She was so inspired by the cards and so motivated to get them started in Sweden, that she took it upon herself to generate Guerilla Goodness in a big way. Starting today, she is embarking on a 26 Day Boom Boom! Challenge. Her goal is to do all 26 cards in 26 days. That’s right, a card a day! Not only that, she is going to blog about her experience and post pictures from her adventures. We will post the link to her blog here (and just so you know, it will be written in Swedish!) as well as feature the card she played that day (which will be written in English) so you can keep tabs on her Boom Boom! progress.

Now, you might be wondering, how on earth could these two things possibly be related?

Well, here’s how: on the new V2 Boom Boom! Cards website you will be able to friend and become fans of people! Yes, that’s right, we are on the cusp of a real dynamic social network here, and we think Karin is a great person to start with in building your Boom Boom! contacts! So, when the new site goes live and you read one of Karin’s posts, click on her profile and fan her! I know she is going to be the first person we fan next week.

Thanks Karin for the commitment and dedication. We cannot wait to see Sweden pop up on the Boom Boom! map!

It’s been just over a year since we first launched Boom Boom! Cards. At that time we had no idea what was going to happen with this crazy “experiment”. And now here we are, a year later, and what was just once an inspired idea is now a full fledged reality. Huge thanks goes to all of you for helping make that happen. We built it, and you came. And, not only did you come, you came with great ideas and suggestions that we took very seriously.

So we are thrilled to announce that, thanks to your very helpful feedback, we are getting ready to unveil some uber-cool and super far-out elements to the next version of the Boom Boom! Cards website. The first and foremost of those being that very soon you will be able to friend people, become fans of others and get fans of your own. Yes, YOU can have your very own fans! Imagine that!

Other cool new features include advanced searches to find Boom Boom! posts based on filters such as, “distance traveled” and “most read”, an improved and enhanced profile page, new deck management options and a revamped World Wide Boom Boom! page with even more new functions.

But wait! There’s More!

We didn’t stop there. No way! We are also adding completely brand new elements to the mix too! “Everday Boom Boom!” and “Say Something Good” are brand spanking new features that will add greater dimension and activity to the site. As registered deck holders, you will be able to utilize these fun new components and, in the future, contribute to a news feed that that we’re calling “The Good Stream”. Look for that new feature to arrive in late spring.

But, for now, stay tuned for the big launch of the latest iteration of Boom Boom! Cards coming very soon!
